About Us

The Knotty Pup was built from a lifetime of craftsmanship, creativity, and a little bit of canine mischief. Mark discovered his love for woodworking at a young age, learning the trade from his father, who was a builder. Those early days in the workshop taught him the importance of patience, precision, and building with intention—values that still guide every project today.

Before turning his passion into a business, Mark spent over 25 years as a CAD designer. That design background now pairs seamlessly with his woodworking, allowing him to blend modern precision with timeless craftsmanship. Every piece begins with thoughtful design and ends with careful, hands-on work.

Who is The Knotty Pup?

And then there’s Ted—the heart behind the name. Ted is Mark’s 5-year-old Border Collie and loyal shop sidekick, known affectionately as The Knotty Pup. He loves to hang out in the workshop, “helping” in his own way… which usually means stealing pencils or wandering off with a tool he thinks should be his. His playful personality (and occasional troublemaking) inspired the business name: a nod to both woodworking knots and Ted’s naughty behavior.

Together, Mark, his wife Tina, and Ted make up The Knotty Pup—where craftsmanship, creativity, and a good sense of humor come together to create work that’s built with care and meant to last..
